African American Experience in Missouri
Wed, NOV 09, 2016, 06:30pm

Bryan Jack will speak about the thousands of African Americans who fled the post-Reconstruction South and arrived in St. Louis destitute. The city became a barrier as formidable as the Red Sea, but some St. Louisians started relief efforts to support the Exodusters. His new book explores early black migration and an insight into St. Louis as a city, Missouri as a state, and African American life in an era of dramatic change.

Location Jesse Auditorium, Jesse Hall, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO
