Program: Dr. Harry S. Laver: “Learning the Art of Joint Operations: General U.S. Grant and Rear Admiral Andrew H. Foote.”
Dr. Laver Is a professor of military history at the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
In the early 1860’s joint operations between Army and Navy forces were not well established. Success in the West depended upon the relationship forged between General Grant and Rear Admiral Foote. These leaders learned to cooperate and coordinate their operations as they achieved victories at Fort Henry and Fort Donelson. As a result, the Union gained control of the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers, opening the heart of the western Confederacy to Union forces.
Visitors are always welcome.
Refreshments served.
