Trails Day in Independence, Missouri
Sat, JUN 03, 2023, 10:00am

Talk by Mike Calvert in the museum auditorium: “How the Trails Impacted the Economy and Development of Western Missouri and Especially Independence from 1827 to 1860.”

Members of any historic trails organization are invited to enjoy a complimentary beverage and pastry from The Wild Way Coffee Company in the auditorium.  Admittance to the Trails Museum is Free.

The Museum will be closing June 30, 2023 and will be moved to another location to be announced.  A model train museum will be installed in the building.  On June 3, 2023, the Chicago and Alton Depot will be open.  Donations are gratefully accepted.  The Jackson County Historical Society will be sponsoring a pioneer history day on the lawn.  Teams of two to four will see if they have what it takes to survive the Oregon Trail.  There are multiple “stops” with games, trivia, and relay races.  Teams will pack their wagon, hunt wild game, forge rivers, and have a chance to win points at each stop.

From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. is reserved for a “slow and steady pace” which is perfect for families and young children.  From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. is reserved for a “grueling pace” which is better for competitive players.  Awards will be given for Best Group Costume, Best Group Team Name, Best Wagon Design, Best Ill-Fated Member, and winner for the Slow Pace and for the Grueling Pace.  The registration is $35 per team and you will need to choose a team name.  Children are welcome but there must be at least one adult per team.  Children under 5 are not counted as “team members,” but they are welcome to participate with their families.  Reservations are available soon at www.eventbrite.com.
