Retrospective:  For a hot August day, the morning turned out rather nice.  Mike gave us a great perspective and in depth knowledge of First Battle of Independence, including background and the hours leading up to the battle on August 11, 1862.



There are four "witness houses" that still exist from the time of the battle.  Mike showed us each one (from the street).  They are:
